Machining two sided wooden dishes has been a challange for me, but here are a few photos.

photo01

White Ash from our bush lot, I glued 4 pieces.

photo02

Laminated pieces like this will prevent the dish from warping.

photo03

about 3 inches wide and 7 long.

photo04

I used the same candies in all the photos to help indicate the size of the dishes.

photo05

Sugar Maple also known as hard maple, I cut this tree in the 1980 s and stored it under the deck.

photo06

As you can clearly see some bugs or worms had their way and chewed it up pretty bad.

photo07

I glued together a couple of pieces and thought I would carve a dish. Also note there is a hole through the dish.

photo08

Same amount of candies as above.

photo09

Cut from the same cut file as the dishes above.

photo010

Laminated White Ash from our wood lot.

photo011

Another Dish from White Ash.

photo012

photo013

Black Walnut, I changed things a little and made a larger dish.

photo014

Black walnut is a very nice wood to carve.

photo015

The raw block of wood was 12 by 5.5 inches and 2.125 thick.

photo016

I used the same amount of candies as the photos above to indicate the capacity.

photo017

Quarter Cut Red Oak, a block of wood given to me.

photo018

I wanted to try a round dish.

photo019

This turned out pretty nice.

photo020

Block was 6.5 by 6.5 by 1.75 inches thick.

photo021

And again I use the same amount of candies.

photo022

Black Walnut, this was the first wooden dish I machined with my CNC.

photo023

I could have made the wall and the lip a little thiner, maybe next time.

photo024

YUP same candies.

photo025

White Ash Laminated, but when I machined this dish I made a mistake and cut too deep while machining the top dish side.

photo026

Then flipped the material over to machine the bottom and learned I had cut too deep.

photo027

I made a correction and cheated the machine and ended with a small lip on the inside of the dish.

photo028

As my Dad used to say, a blind man on a fast horse would never see that. YUP same candies.

photo029

Bkack Cherry and white Ash pieces of scrap I had in the shop.

photo030

The pieces of wood were 10" by 6" by 2¼ thick.

photo031

The finished dish is 5" wide by 8" and little over 2 inches high.

photo032

It will be filled with Lindt Truffles chocolates and given as a gift.

photo033

This is the dish as above except it is filled with dark chocolate.

photo034

I intend this to be a 2021 Christmas gift for my wonderful Daughter-in-law.

Here is the Rheo Thompson contact details.

photo036

Just another photo.

photo037

I found a piece of wood by the side of the road that perhaps fell from a truck that had been used under freight to allow the forks to unload materials.

photo038

The stick of wood was 48 inches long 3 inches wide and 2 inches thick.

photo039

I cut off the bad ends and the remainder I cut 5 pieces at 9 inches long.

photo040

I designed this dish using Vectric, Aspire software double sided project.

photo041

I machined 5 dishes fron this stick of wood and I think it is Elm.

photo042
