A friend was planning a trip to Germany and wanted to take a gift to her friends and asked if I could make a couple of these.

photo02

The wood is Black Cherry from our wood lot, cut and air dried stored inside for about 4 years.

photo03

The date on the photo is NOT CORRECT , I was just too lazy. The design and engraving was programmed using Vectric Aspire ver 11.5 and my CNC is the ShopBot Desk top 24 by 18 inches.

photo04

This is the second tray, same size has but different text.

photo05

The trays are 7.5 inches wide and 16 inches long. The pocketed area is .375 or 3/8' inch deep

photo06

The back of the tray has the finger grooves pocketed out each end and there are two slots at the top also pocketed half inch deep by quarter inch wide used to hang the serving tray as a wall plaque if you like.

I had this piece of Hemlock about 9 inches wide and 19 inches long.

photo08

I very simply pocketed the inner area 3/8" deep and V carved the text.

photo07a

On the back I pocketed the finger area and a slot at the tot to be used to hang on the wall if you decide.

This is just another view from an angle.

This is a 3D carving I designed from a photo of a "T" shirt sent to me asking if a wall plaque could be carved. I had a J.M.SchneiderS Bamboo Carving Board given to me so I thought I would try. The board is 11" by 14". Bamboo is not the most friendly wood to work with, splinters very easly, toolpathing at 45 degrees works better.
Designing time 2.5 hours
Machining time 3 hours, includes finishing.
Ya, I know it's not a wall plaque, learn to live with it.

photo010

This is the underside of the cutting board / serving tray with a Google Map fishing layout of Gould Lake, so I copied and pasted in my Vectric Aspire software pocketing the lake at 0.100" deep and the county and lake roads carved 0.050" wide and 0.100" deep.
Pocketing and roughing tool paths, I used quarter and eighth inch endmill
Finishing 3D toolpaths I used a tapered ball nose 0.0625 dia.
Text, I used a 60 degree "V" bit.

photo011

This is not realy a serving tray but is ment to be used at your night stand or dresser to place your jewelery when you retire for the evening.

photo012

This design is from Biki a design engineer from Vectric.com she used during one of her many YouTube videos. The darker wood is Black Cherry, clear varnish. the lighter is Canadian Maple clear finish.
Thank you Biki.

I was asked to provide a serving tray by a friend that will be a gift for Bev.
the wood is Black Cherry from our bush lot I cut around 2020 so the wood is good and dry.

photo014

This is a photo of the back or bottom of Bev's tray.
Outside measurments are 16 inches wide by 8 inches tall and ¾" thick.
The ¼" by 2" slots at the top edge are for hanging the tray on the wall then could be used as a wall plaque.
